Cobit, ISACA Risk IT Practices and Techniques and How to use them
Mr. Joe Mayo - Keane Federal Systems
Session Abstract: The presentation will focus on the application of risk management techniques to effectively manage schedule risks that often plague projects. The presentation will explore the relationship between the PMBOK and ISACA’s Risk IT Framework. The presentation will focus specifically on two aspects of the Risk IT framework; risk evaluation and risk response. The concept of risk scenarios is one technique that will be presented in detail and include one or more workshop exercises. Risk scenarios include threats, events, assets / resources, and time components. What the audience will gain: Upon completion of the presentation, attendees will be able to construct risk scenarios that frequently plague software testing. The audience will gain practical experience preparing risk scenarios and the associated risk treatment plans. Attendees will learn how to identify risks early in the project lifecycle so that they can be managed early to minimize the impact on subsequent lifecycle phases. The audience will also learn valuable tools and techniques that can be utilized for practical risk management.
Speaker BIO - Mr. Joe Mayo
Mr. Mayo is a PMI certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Risk Management Professional (RMP), and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) by ISACA. Mr. Mayo is an IT Professional with more than 27 years of experience including 13 years of hands-on development and 12 years of Project and Program Management. Mr. Mayo has spent 17 of the past 27 years as a consultant for a number of companies including CSC and Keane.
Mr. Mayo is a frequent speaker on topics involving program / project management and quality. Mr. Mayo is currently a Senior Program Manager for Keane Federal Systems responsible for the Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) of the Department of Homeland Security, Secure Border Initiative and holds a BS/IT degree from the University of Phoenix. Career highlights include:
Program Manager for project #7 of the top 100 IT Projects of 2006 by InfoWorld. Developed PMO procedures, the collaboration workspace, and Executive level dashboards for a PMO to divest a large International conglomerate ($18B 2005 revenue). The PMO was responsible for cloning 112 Corporate Applications for 4 separate operating companies, and renegotiating 1300 telecommunications, IT service and license contracts without impacting the day to day operations of any one of the operating companies (http://www.infoworld.com/d/developer-world/wave-spin-offs-puts-keane-test-968).
Leveraged the Rational Unified Process (RUP) and the Evolutionary Process for Integrating COTS (EPIC) to deliver new capability that dramatically improved the efficiency of the Air Force supply chain resulting in a ROI calculated at 6:1 in the first 12 months alone.
