Abstract:
This talk will focus on the importance and motivation for measurement in the organization. It will provide an overview of GQM+Strategies, an extension to the Goal/Question/Metric (GQM) framework, and how it can be used by participants to select appropriate measures related to their overall business and software project activities including project management and software quality. Best practices, lessons learned, and examples will be shared to demonstrate actionable and meaningful measures to enable good decision-making on software development projects. In addition, the concepts of measurement and how they relate to the CMMI including high maturity practices will be discussed. Presentation time will also include a discussion forum to allow participants to share experience on measurement related topics.
Note: Attendees receive PDUs to use for recertification credits at PMI, QAI, ASQ, ISC2, ISACA, IEEE or ISTQB.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Madeline Diep is a Research Scientist and Team Lead for the Software and Process Analytics Team at Fraunhofer Center for Experimental Software Engineering. Dr. Diep has developed an approach for qualifying cost and value models for software assurance activities, as well as identified improvements to software and system inspection and review practices on projects at NASA. The lessons learned have been incorporated in the current NASA Software Formal Inspections Standard. Dr. Diep has built prediction models and provided measurement expertise to organizations implementing CMMI high maturity practice. She is also responsible for analysis and reporting of metrics to manage progress on a major software- intensive systems development effort. Her research interests include empirical studies, measurement and analytics, software analysis, and software quality assurance. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Nebraska - Lincoln in 2009.
Michele Shaw, PMP has over 30 years of practical experience with business lifecycle processes including software and service development, project management, quality assurance, and client support. At the Fraunhofer Center for Experimental Software Engineering, Maryland she leads the Engineering Solutions Team and assists organizations in industry and government with improving their business through process improvement initiatives using various reference models. Michele has hands-on implementation experience with ISO and CMMI including high maturity compliant practices. She has Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Baltimore and a Masters in Applied Behavioral Science from the Johns Hopkins University.

While there is plenty of parking, there is no designated visitor parking, so you can park your car in the spaces provided.
